Xbox One/Xbox 720’s Kinect Incompatible for PC, TV App to Come Out on Xbox 360 & More Halo News
There's a reason why the Microsoft had bundled the Kinect with the Xbox One. Reports are now coming in that the new Kinect will only work on the next-gen console, as it is incompatible with the PC.
In fact, here is a special adapter that will connect the Kinect to the Xbox One, but a PC version of the Kinect with its own brand of USB output will be released on its own, later this year.
PC World reports that this may have been caused by the hacking with the first Kinect and the Xbox 360, wherein others have hacked the device to match it to the PC.
This time, it is necessary to plug in the Kinect to the Xbox One to function. Moreover, Microsoft has already learned its lesson from way back, and has avoided using the same developer tools, commercial use licensing, and even testing it on the PC.
This means you'd have to cough up more money for the Windows version of the Kinect, which has been recently announced for developers to be priced at $400.
Developments for Halo 2014 underway?
Microsoft currently holds the patent for a gaming feature wherein game a "plurality of gaming engines" will be running concurrently, thus letting players switch between two modes: the original visuals and the up-to-date ones.
The point of the patent, according to Joystiq, is to give a nostalgic feel as the patent will allow the gamers to switch between the original experience and better visuals, so that the remake won't be an entirely new feeling.
Does this have anything to do with yesterday's announcement that what Microsoft is currently working in is not the Halo 5 but rather another first-person shooter Halo game?
Is this patent a nod to the speculation of a Halo 2: Anniversary coming out sometime in 2014? Microsoft has not yet given word or more details about the next Halo game, but there's always Gamescom and Build to look forward to.
The Xbox 360: Slated to become a less-advanced Xbox One?
The Xbox One has been touting the integration of other features beyond gaming, which is why it has been selling its entertainment features pretty hard, supposing it to be the feature that would ultimately set it apart from its predecessor, Xbox 360.
However, it seems that the Xbox One won't be the only living room centerpiece console, as the Xbox 360 may be looking at live television streaming through an upcoming app from Time Warner Cable.
Dallas News reports that Time Warner Cable is gearing up for an announcement regarding its partnership with Microsoft. Basically, the announcement will reveal how the Xbox 360 will now be able to have live TV programming.
"Time Warner Cable video subscribers who are Xbox Live Gold members will be able to watch up to 300 live TV channels through their Xbox 360," said an official press release quoted by Dallas News.
Though the app will be free for download, it will require a membership to Xbox Live Gold, where the fees will be charged to. However, this means that those who may not have the budget for the Xbox One or may have not yet been planning to get themselves the next-gen console can still experience the one-console for the living room concept.
