Xiaomi Mi 5 to feature pressure-sensitive tech similar to Apple's 3D Touch
Xiaomi has filed a patent for an in-house technology that is pretty much like Apple's 3D Touch. Consumers are not so surprised, considering that the Chinese handset maker has been quite known for copying the Cupertino-based tech giant's designs and style.
Apple debuted the pressure-sensitive screen technology on its current flagships, the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus. Since the unveiling, the company's rivals were hard at work at coming up with a similar technology, as pointed out by Tech Times.
It was previously reported that Samsung - Apple's strongest rival in today's tech market - is also working on its version of a pressure-sensitive display. According to the report, this new tech will be applied on the Korean company's upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S7. Now, Xiaomi is also joining the band wagon, according to the infamous tech tipster, Leaksfly.
Leaksfly is notorious for giving away reliable information regarding upcoming gadgets on Weibo. According to the leak, Xiaomi is going to implement its new tech in its future mobile units through a collaboration with Synaptics. Synaptics has ClearForce display controllers that will give smartphones the ability to identify which action the user wants it to perform, based on the application of pressure on its screen.
This is not the first time that the Chinese tech company worked with Synaptics, since they also worked together for the ClearPad S3708 controller that comes with the recently unveiled Xiaomi Mi4c.
That said, at this point, it remains unknown whether or not the brand's upcoming Mi 5 will feature its very first 3D Touch-like display. It is, however, confirmed to be the very first Xiaomi device to sport a Snapdragon 820 processor. The Mi 5 from Xiaomi has already been slated for an unknown 2016 release date.
In addition to Samsung and Xiaomi, Huawei also recently unveiled its own Force Touch technology for the Mate S device -- which, in turn, was actually launched in the tech market before Apple launched its iPhone 6S.
