The Xiaomi Mi 5 is one of the most awaited smartphones of the year and succeeds the Xiaomi Mi 4 from 2014. Rumours are rife Xiaomi will launch the Mi 5 in December with the same price as the Mi 4.

The 16 GB version of the Xiaomi Mi 4 was priced at 1,999 Yuan or $315 (AU$431) based on current exchange rates. Mobi Picker reported that a famous tipster, @Leaksfly, posted on Weibo the price of the base Mi 5 model will be same as the 16 GB edition of Mi 4.

This indicates the starting price of the Mi 5 could also be $315 (AU$431). Since the start of this year, there’s been a lot of speculation the Xiaomi Mi 5 will pack monstrous specs. This was confirmed by the recent surfacing of the AnTuTu benchmarks of a purported Xiaomi Mi 5 handset. The phone managed to a record a whopping score of 73,075.

Speculation suggests the Xiaomi Mi 5 will have a 5.2-inch full HD display. It will be powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor from Qualcomm. Phone Arena recently reported the Mi 5 will feature 3D fingerprint recognition, a feature natively support by the Qualcomm chip.

Other rumours also indicate the device will be driven by the Helio X20 chipset from MediaTek. Some of the other features available on the Xiaomi Mi 5 include an 16 MP rear and an 8 MP front cameras; a USB Type-C connector; Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and 16 GB and 32 GB storage versions.

Xiaomi is also said to be working on the Mi Note 2 that will arrive with a 5.7-inch Quad HD screen and a better camera. As of this writing, there’s no official confirmation of these specs – or the existence of the Xiaomi Mi Note 2.
