Samsung and Xiaomi are set to launch their flagship smartphones, the Galaxy A7 (2016) and Mi 5, by early 2016.

Word is Xiaomi might launch its Mi 5 in January while Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy A7 in the first half of 2016. Customers are faced with the task of choosing between two great handsets offering value for money, so which handset should they buy as a replacement phone in 2016?

Display

If rumours are to be believed, the Xiaomi Mi5 features a 5.7-inch IPS LCD display with a pixel resolution of 1440 x 2560. The Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016) will sport a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED screen with a pixel resolution of 1080 x 1920. The Galaxy A7 has a slightly smaller screen as compared to the Xiaomi Mi 5 but both have Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection.

Platform

For the American and Chinese markets, the Galaxy A7 will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 820 SoC while Samsung’s own 64-bit Octa-Core Exynos 8890 SoC will power phones for the European, Korea and Japan markets.

On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor. According to Qualcomm, the new Snapdragon 820 works 35 percent faster than its predecessor and is about 30 percent more power efficient.

Both the Samsung Galaxy A7 and Xiaomi Mi 5 run Android Lollipop.

Camera, Touch Sensitivity and Memory

The Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016) will have Sony’s IMX 300 sensorwhich has better visuals than the Xiaomi Mi 5.

Clear Touch technology will be used the Samsung while Xiaomi will use its own 3D Touch pressure sensitive display.

Moving on to storage, the Samsung Galaxy A7 has 16 GB inbuilt storage along with an option to increase up to 64 GB via microSD. The Xiaomi Mi 5 will have a 64 GB internal memory without an option of expandable memory.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 will have 4 GB of RAM while Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016) will have 3 GB of RAM.
