OnePlus One was released in June, whereas the latest Xiaomi Mi4 has just been launched this Tuesday. However, the handset will be released only in the third quarter of 2014. The OnePlus One and the Xiaomi Mi4 come packed with killer specifications that can give all the top-sellers a run for their money. Readers who are interested in the OnePlus One or the latest Xiaomi Mi4 should check out this specifications, features and price comparison.
Furthermore, interested readers should check out this Bamboo StyleSwap Cover specific to OnePlus One handset that comes for $49.
Display, Exterior and Size
The OnePlus One comes with a LG G3-like 5.5-inch LTPS LCD display, whereas the Xiaomi Mi4 features a relatively smaller 5.0-inch IPS LCD display. In addition, the OnePlus One comes bundled with a good screen resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels with 401 ppi pixel density. The Xiaomi Mi4, on the other hand, features the same screen resolution, but the pixel strength stands at 441 ppi.
These killer screen specifications provide stunning viewing experience in the humongous phablet-like screens of OnePlus One and Xiaomi Mi4. However, the unique selling point of the OnePlus One handset is the magnesium exterior. Furthermore, the back panel is alterable with choices like bamboo, kevlar, and denim.
When it comes to look, the Xiaomi has earned the reputation for quality build of Mi series of phones, unlike many other counterparts from China. Nevertheless, there is no information available on the exterior of the latest Xiaomi Mi4 at this point. But the predecessor Xiaomi Mi3's exterior is made of plastic. Despite this, the phone gets the premium look with its metal-like body accompanying the glass front. Xiaomi's attention to detail and quality construction make the handset stand out, according to CNet. With a killer predecessor, the Xiaomi Mi4 is expected to beat the expectations.
The thickness and the weight of Xiaomi Mi4 are 0.35-inch and 149 g respectively, whereas the OnePlus One is 0.35-inch thick and weighs 162 g. Therefore, the Xiaomi Mi4 is lighter than the OnePlus One handset.
Hardware, Software and Memory
Interestingly, both the phones are powered by the same quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 801) Krait 400 processor, clocked at 2.5 GHz and 3 GB of RAM. Also, the OnePlus One runs on the unique combination of Android v4.4.2 KitKat OS with CyanogenMod 11S UI, while the Xiaomi Mi4 runs on Android v4.4.3 KitKat OS with MIUI. When it comes to memory, both the phones offer 16 GB and 64 GB of internal storage with no microSD card support.
Camera and Battery
Both the phones sport 13 MP rear-facing cameras with dual-LED flash. When it comes to secondary camera, the Xiaomi trumps OnePlus with a surprisingly good 8 MP camera, while the OnePlus One houses a 5 MP front-facing shooter.
Furthermore, the Xiaomi Mi4 houses a solid Li-Ion 3080 mAh battery unit, whereas the OnePlus One comes with a similar Li-Ion 3100 mAh battery unit. Both the batteries are not user-replaceable.
Connectivity, SIM and Colour
Both the phones come equipped with Wi-Fi 802.11, Wi-Fi Direct, LTE and Wi-Fi hotspot support. However, the difference comes in the form of Bluetooth connectivity. The OnePlus One goes one step further and supports Bluetooth v4.1, while the Xiaomi Mi4 supports Bluetooth v4.0.
Besides, both the phones support NFC. While the Xiaomi handset supports Infrared port, the OnePlus One doesn't. In addition, the handsets come equipped with micro-sim holder. Also, the OnePlus One comes in silk white and sandstone black, whereas the Xiaomi Mi4 is expected to come with many vivid colour choices other than the standard black and white, according to GSM Arena.
Price and Release Date
The OnePlus One 16 GB with 4G LTE is priced at AU$479.95 in Australia, while the Xiaomi Mi4 variant will be priced at US$399 (roughly translates to AU$424) at this point. Notably, Oppomart offers pre-order of Xiaomi Mi4 right now. In addition, Oppomart says the pre-ordered handsets will be shipped between Aug. 5 and Aug. 10.
