ZTE Grand S and Sony Xperia Z are two of the strongest Android smartphones unveiled at the CES 2013 event in Los Angeles. Here is a comparison of two of the latest gadgets to join this year's battle for the best smartphone.

ZTE Grand S vs Sony Xperia Z: Dimensions and Weight

The Grand S currently holds the title for being the slimmest 5-inch smartphone. It impresses reviewers for its 6.9mm enclosure, measuring 142 x 69 x 6.9 mm and weighing 110 grams. Xperia Z measures 139 x 71 x 7.9 mm and weighs 140 grams. The "tiny" differences in these numbers can mean a huge thing for the users. Xperia Z responds to Grand S superslim feature with a claim of its own: being water resistant, Xperia Z is the smartphone that you can use in the rain.

ZTE Grand S vs Sony Xperia Z: Screen Display

Both ZTE Grand S and Sony Xperia Z boast of a 5-inch full HD screen display with a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels and a pixel density of around 440 ppi. The difference here is that Xperia Z has Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 and Timescape UI to level up its display. The ZTE capacitive touchscreen has no known enhancement or protective screen feature.

ZTE Grand S vs Sony Xperia Z: Connectivity, Battery

Both the Grand S and Xperia Z offer the usual connectivity features: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and 4G LTE. Both gadgets are powered by a non-removable Li-Ion battery -- 1780mAh for the ZTE's flagship phone and 2330 mAh for the Sony counterpart. It must be noted that Sony enhanced the Z device with Battery Stamina Mode, which can reportedly double its battery power.

ZTE Grand S vs Sony Xperia Z: Camera and Video Features

Both the Grand S and Xperia Z entice mobile photographers with a 13MP rear camera. Z's secondary camera renders 2.2MP, while it's 2MP for the S competition. Special features of the Grand S camera include geo-tagging, touch focus and face detection. Xperia Z is strongly backed by Sony's technology in this area. Its camera allows touch focus, face detection, image stabilization, HDR and sweep panorama. While both cameras can record videos at 1080p@30fps, only Xperia Z can boast of HDR video and video stabilizer.

ZTE Grand S vs Sony Xperia Z: CPU, Memory, Storage and OS

The ZTE Grand S is made robust by 1.7GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro Quad-Core and 2GB of RAM. It allows a storage space of 16GB, which is decent for its class. Despite its thin shell, Grand S has a microSD card slot for an extra storage of up to 32GB. Xperia Z provides the same feature.

Inside Xperia Z is 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro Quad-Core and a similar 2GB RAM. It also allows 16GB of internal storage. It will run on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, with rumours saying users will be able to upload to v4.2 soon enough.

ZTE Grand S will run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box. Initial release will be in China, but the mobile device is expected to be sold internationally.
