2015 Apple MacBook vs Samsung ATIV Book 9 (2015): Comparison Of Display, Performance, Connectivity And Pricing Shows ATIV Book Is A Lethal MacBook Killer

The newly launched 12-inch MacBook has numerous competitors like the Dell XPS 13, the Chomebook Pixel 2, the HP Spectre x360 and others. One of its major competitors is the Samsung ATIV Book 9 (2015). Here is the comparison of the two tablets to know which one is the better device:

Dimensions And Display

The 2015 Apple MacBook weights 0.92 kg and the Samsung ATIV Book 9 weighs 0.93 kg. In terms of width, depth and height (thinness), the MacBook measures 280.4 x 196.5 x 13.2 mm. On the other side, the ATIV Book 9 measures 284.2 x 212.6 x 11.7 mm. Both the devices are more or less on the level for width and depth measurements but the Samsung laptop beats the MacBook in thinness.

The Samsung device supports a higher display resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels on a 12.2-inch display whereas the MacBook has a 12.2-inch display that supports 2304 x 1440 pixels resolution. The ATIV Book 9 comes with additional outdoor mode feature that produces a brightness of 700 nits of outdoor viewing.

Processor RAM And Storage

The MacBook and the ATIV Book 9 are featuring the Intel Core M chips. The latter is powered by 5Y31 edition that delivers a clocking speed of 0.9 GHz and with Turbo Boost, it can reach speeds of up to 2 GHz.

The exact processor description of the new MacBook is not known yet but it said to deliver faster processing speeds of 1.1 GHz or 1.3 GHz. With Turbo Boost, I can deliver 2 GHz of processing speeds. Both are equipped with Intel HD 5300 graphics.

The ATIV Book 9 is available two RAM variants like 4 GB and 8 GB whereas the MacBook features 8 GB of RAM only. The Samsung ATIV Book 9 with SSD storage options like 128 GB and 256 GB. The Apple product houses the newer but costlier PCIe storage options like 256 GB and 512 GB.

Connectivity Ports

The Apple MacBook Retina 2015 comes with only one USB Type-C connectivity port. Important connectivity points like HDMI, microSD slot and USB 3.0 are absent are on it. In order to add more devices on the MacBook, users are required to buy an additional dongle. Samsung ATIV Book 9 is packed with various connectivity slots like two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, microSD slot and a proprietary charging port.

Battery And Price

The 39.8 watt hours Li-Po battery last for 9 hours but the 35 Watt hours can churn out of 12.5 hours of battery life.

Both the laptops are priced expensively. The MacBook with 256 GB storage and 8 GB RAM is available for $1,299. The ATIV Book 9with 128 GB storage and 4 GB RAM is priced at $1,199.

The 256 GB storage and 8 GB RAM variant of the Samsung device is priced at $1,399. The 2015 Apple MacBook with 512 GB storage and 8 GB RAM carries a whopping price tag of $1,599.
