Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic headline a blockbuster final showdown at the 2015 US Open men’s singles event on Sunday (EDT), their second successive meeting in a grand slam tournament. This marks that 42nd time that Federer and Djokovic meet on tour. Federer leads their series 21-20.

Federer makes his first US Open final appearance in six years after scoring straight sets-victory over Davis Cup teammate and compatriot Stan Wawrinka in the men’s singles quarterfinal match on Arthur Ashe Stadium on Friday evening. Federer, who has not dropped a set in the tournament, will play Djokovic in his bid to win a remarkable 18th grand slam title, which will potentially be his sixth title at Flushing Meadows.

“I’m very happy, it’s been a great tournament so far,” Federer said after the match, reported ATPWorldTour.com. “I tried very hard in the last six years to get to another final, I came close a few times and tonight it worked against Stan, who also played a good tournament.”

Djokovic booked a spot in the final two after beating defending champion Marin Cilic in easy straight sets 6-0 6-1 6-2 earlier on Friday. The Serbian’s recent victory has improved his head-to-head record over the Croatian to 14-0. It is the ninth time that Djokovic makes the final of a tournament this season.

The upcoming blockbuster final match between two of the world’s greatest player is their sixth meeting in the final of a tournament this year, with Djokovic leading 3-2. Their first meeting took place in Dubai (won by Federer 6-3 7-5) followed by Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Tour Masters 1000 events in Indian Wells and Rome, which were both won by Djokovic. At the 2015 Wimbledon Championships, Djokovic extended his winning streak to three by denying the 17-time grand slam champion another trophy at the All England Club 7-6(1) 6-7(10) 6-4 6-3. They last played at the ATP 1000 event Cincinnati where Federer clinched his seventh trophy beating Djokovic in straight sets 7-6 (1) 6-3.

Djokovic is bidding to win his 10th grand slam title. He won the Australian Open and Wimbledon, but lost in the final of the Roland Garros. He fired 45 aces and 82 winners in the tournament so far to Federer’s 68 and 236, respectively.

Federer leads their US Open series 3-2, but Djokovic seems to have the upper hand in grand slam tournaments against the Swiss 7-6. Most of their previous clashes took place in the hard court surfaces, with the Serb leading 17-15. Djokovic lost to Federer in the 2007 US Open finale.
