HTC's brand new, mid-range smartphone Desire 510 is gearing up for September release. Notably, the Desire 510 is the successor of the Desire 500 handset.

The upcoming device will use the powerful Snapdragon 410 processor, which is apparently the first 64-bit processor the company will be releasing in 2014, according to GSM Arena. Can the performance of this processor on the Desire 510 give other mid-range phones a run for their money?

The handset will run on Android v4.4 KitKat OS along with HTC's Sense v6.0 UI on top of it. However it is worth noting that, Android version 4.4 KitKat is not a 64-bit operating system. This means, the Desire 510 will not be able to completely benefit from the wide range of capabilities this processor can offer in combination with a higher version of Android OS, opines the same publication.

When it comes to key specifications, the HTC Desire 510 will feature a 4.7-inch display similar to Apple iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy Alpha. In addition, the screen resolution and pixel strength stand at 480 x 854 pixels and 208 ppi respectively. The phone will be powered by a quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 410) Cortex-A53 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz. Additionally, the HTC device will utilise Adreno 306 GPU for graphics and will be backed by 1 GB of RAM.

Other salient specifications include a 5MP rear-facing camera unit and a VGA shooter at the front. As far as the memory goes, the device supports 8GB of internal storage and microSD card slot for expansion up to 128 GB. Also the handset is powered by a solid 2,100 mAh battery unit, while the predecessor Desire 500 comes with only 1,800 mAh unit. Hence it is a huge specification leap.

Apart from the standard connectivity features like WiFi, Bluetooth, DLNA, 2G/3G, the device will also support 4G LTE. The phone will come in black, blue, grey and white colours and will be priced at £149 that roughly translates to US$245 and AU$263, says The Inquirer.

With so many benchmark testing sites like AnTuTu, Geekbench, GFX and Basemark 2 measuring various performance parameters, it is time to see where the HTC handset stands among its peers. The parameters used by these sites include (but not restricted to) custom testing, memory and graphics chip performance, among others. On an average, the HTC Desire 510 smartphone's benchmark score fits somewhere in the middle of the lot. However, it trumped the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini and the Sony Xperia M2 in most of the tests. Even so, the Desire 510 was beaten by HTC Desire 616 owing to the octa-core processor housed in the device.
