7-incher Tablets: Barnes & Noble Nook HD 7.0 vs. Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0
The popular Barnes & Noble company made their first tablet called Nook HD with stunning HD display, access to apps and games, and millions of books and magazines to choose from. Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 defines the device as tablet buddy on the go and a total multimedia hub. Can Nook HD match the power of the Galaxy Tab 2?
Screen Display
Both devices have 7.0 inches of screen display with LCD technology used. Nook HD defined their display with 1440x900 resolution while Samsung gave 1024x600 resolution to Galaxy Tab 2.0. It seems the Nook displays much clearer view on reading books and watching videos. Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 takes advantage with ambient light sensor and proximity sensor.
Dimension, Size and Weight
Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 appears and feels thinner with 7.63x4.82x0.41 inches in dimension compared to the 8.10x5.00x0.48 inches of Nook HD. For weight, Galaxy Tab 2 weighs 344g while Nook HD weighs 400g.
Technology
Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich while Nook HD has Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Although, the Galaxy Tab 2 seems powerful with its OS, Nook HD has a customised version similar to Amazon, which means it uses Barnes & Nobles's applications.
Both tablets have built-in 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and can support up to 32GB of microSD card. Galaxy Tab 2 has more on-board storage of 32GB defeating the Nook HD's 16GB internal storage.
Connectivity
Nook HD users can only utilise Wi-Fi connection for Web browsing and file transfer while Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 can use 3G Internet, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Additionally, Galaxy Tab 2 has a built-in GPS which is something Nook HD doesn't have. But if you want an HDMI connection, Nook HD will be pleased to deliver that to you.
Camera
If you are thinking to take a picture with the Nook HD, don't bother because it doesn't have any cameras at all. Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 features 3MP rear-camera and 0.3MP front shooter.
Multimedia
If you want to watch movies from various video formats, the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 allows it. The tablet supports 3GP, WMV, MP4, MKV, FLV, and more while Nook HD supports MP4, 3GP, WEBM, and AVI only. The Galaxy Tab 2 also has a microphone, HD playback and GPS navigation features while Nook HD offers graphics acceleration and HD playback.
The Price
Nook HD costs $269 per unit and comes with a free Nook Simple Touch as their promo against the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 tab price of $179 at least, depending on which network carrier. Nook HD provides higher resolution for reading and browsing while Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 favours livelier multimedia experience.
