Addictive Android Games: 'Cut the Rope 2' Out, Not Compatible with All, '2048' is a New Number Craze
The long-awaited sequel "Cut the Rope 2" is finally out, and already, it has received the expected craze from fans, as it reaches half a billion downloads globally for the entire franchise.
ZeptoLab's sequel to its successful game has been one of the top games on the Google Play Store, and "Cut the Rope 2" is just as anticipated as its predecessor. "Cut the Rope 2" has been in the iOS since December, but the Android version features 120 levels, new power-ups, extra fruit missions and a new interactive map, according to Pocket-lint.
"Our Android fans have been eagerly awaiting Cut the Rope 2 since the iOS game first became available in December," said ZeptoLab's CEO Misha Lyalin in a statement quoted by Pocket-lint.
"We have been working hard to bring new content and challenges to this free version, while maintaining all of the fun and simplicity that made Cut the Rope 2 great as a paid game," Lyalin added.
Compatibility Issues for 'Cut the Rope 2'
However, even though "Cut the Rope 2" is now available for Android, there are few devices that may not be able to enjoy the game.
According to Phone Arena, the game is not compatible with the Moto X and Nexus 10, and also quotes sources that the game is also not running on the Nexus 4. Samsung devices seem to be compatible to "Cut the Rope 2." One good difference that it has with the iOS version is that gamers have the same game that costs $0.99 over at iTunes, which is offered for free on Google Play Store.
"Cut the Rope 2" comes at an opportune time as ZeptoLab has also recently announced that the combined downloads for the "Cut the Rope" franchise has already reached 500 million downloads.
The source also mentioned that there has been speculation that the game is not compatible with devices that have been upgraded to the Android 4.4 Kitkat.
'2048': The New 'Threes' Game, Just as Addictive
"Threes" from Sirvo was the first game that feature a combination of similar numbers and growing them within a limited number of blocks until players reach a specific high number or just go on an endless stream to challenge yourself.
But recently, there's a very similar game that has sprouted from a Web site and has now become a staple in the Android Google Play Store. Called the "2048" game, the original from Gabriele Cirulli has stated in the Web site that it is conceptually similar to the "Threes" game, but is also based on the "1024" game from Veewo Studio.
According to Venture Beat, "Threes" has been available on the iOS since Feb 6 and Android last March 12, but now, the free copycats of the "2048" game is providing a similar experience as the game.
This doesn't sit well with the developers, who had previously dismissed "2048" as a game that is less fun than "Threes," but has taken off so well that "Threes" is now being thought off as a rip-off of "2048."
There are currently a number of "2048" apps over on Android, all of which feature the same mechanics. The main difference lies in the interface, the achievements and the number of Undo commands that players can use in a game.
This is supposedly coming from the fact that "Threes" has not yet been beaten until this day and that only a handful of people were able to reach a 6,144 tile in the game. For the "Threes" developer, the original still has an edge because it is almost impossible to master.
Perhaps the main issue here is cloning and the fact that sometimes, clones can actually stick more than originals, no matter how much time and effort had been given to the first game.
In any case, those interested can check out "2048" over on Android or iOS, and it can serve as practice for when players go for the harder challenge that "Threes" presents.
