‘Agent Carter’ Actor Andre Royo Joins Taraji P. Henson In ‘Empire’ Season 2
“Agent Carter” actor Andre Royo has landed a recurring role in “Empire” Season 2, which is set to premiere on September 23. He will play Thirsty Rawlings, a lawyer who impresses Cookie Lyon’s (Taraji P. Henson) former husband, Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard), in prison.
Royo’s character is said to have a charismatic disposition, unethical moves and equally suspicious past, according to TV Line. There are still no details whether the character’s personality is beneficial or detrimental to Lucious in “Empire” Season 2.
In the finale of the first season of “Empire,” Lucious was arrested for the death of Cookie’s cousin, Marcus Williams, also known as Bunkie (Antoine McKay). Prior to his death, Bunkie threatened to burn down Empire Entertainment, which was co-founded by Lucious.
Aside from Royo, “Real Husbands of Hollywood” alum Kelly Rowland and Christian Bale’s “The Big Short” co-star Marisa Tomei will also play recurring roles in the sophomore season of the Fox musical drama series, which will feature Lucious’ past.
Rowland will play Lucious’ mother in the flashbacks in “Empire” Season 2, while Tomei will play a billionaire venture capitalist, named Mimi Whiteman, who will be involved in the Lyon family drama. It has also been revealed that Tomei’s role is a member of the LGBT community.
Before joining “Empire” Season 2, Royo appeared in several TV series including “Key and Peele,” “Elementary,” “NTSF:SD:SUV” and “Kingdom.” Recently, he starred in TV series “Happyish,” “Hand of God” and “Agent Carter,” in which he played Spider Raymond.
Meanwhile, Henson was recently nominated for the Primetime Emmys’ outstanding lead actress award in a drama series for playing Cookie in the first season of “Empire.” Her fellow nominees are "How To Get Away With Murder" star Viola Davis , "Orphan Black" actress Tatiana Maslany, "Homeland" actress Claire Danes, "Mad Men" actress Elisabeth Moss and "House of Cards" actress Robin Wright.
Among the cast members of “Empire,” only Henson received a nomination from the 67th annual Primetime Emmy Awards, which is set to air September 12 . In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she said she “never really got into acting for awards because it's weird when you try to compare art” and she just have to “stay focused."
