Amazon Prime Music heads to UK to compete against Spotify, Apple
Amazon Prime Music has just opened its doors to the UK music streaming market. Apparently, Amazon wants to get in on the lucrative fun that Spotify and Apple Music have been enjoying across the pond for quite some time now.
This expansion is part of the company’s efforts to boost its availability to a wider market. Such move was deemed as handy, especially now that the competition among music streaming companies continue to heat up.
Plus, Amazon had to come up with something to make up for not having as many songs as its competitors such as Apple Music and Spotify. These two have approximately 30 million tracks, while Prime Music reportedly only contains around one million.
Amazon Prime Music users may be exposed to a lesser amount of songs but the service still provides access to tracks from several of today’s most popular music artists, such as Katy Perry, Kanye West, Madonna, Eminem and One Direction.
It is worth noting though that this is the first time Amazon Prime Music has become available outside of the US, according to Tech Times. The service has been available since June 2014 but it was only recently that the company decided to launch it in the UK as part of its annual Prime subscription.
Since its launch in the American market, Amazon claims that Prime Music has been very successful. However, the company has yet to provide actual evidence to support this report. Despite these doubts, it was highly speculated by Tech Times that Amazon’s decision to expand in the UK just might suggest that things are going well for its music streaming service.
One huge advantage that the Amazon Prime Music may have over Spotify and Apple Music is that it not only costs less, but is also part of a AU$168 (US$123.76) package that offers a lot of benefits to its users. As f0r the two competing brands, the cost reaches around AU$255 (US$187.85) a year for each service.
