“American Idol” 2015 on Wednesday announced its Top 4 mid-show on FOX. The bottom two after last week’s Top 5 performances were Rayvon Owen and Tyanna Jones. Tyanna got the lowest number of votes. Jax, Nick Fradiani and Clark Beckham sailed smoothly into the top half of the voting results.

“You’re a spectacular gift,” “American Idol” 2015 judge Harry Connick Jr. told Tyanna Jones. Eliminated she may be from the competition, AI judge Jennifer Lopez said the teenager from Jacksonville, Florida will have a great journey ahead.

Tyanna Jones’ farewell song was Beyonce’s “Run The World.” The “American Idol” 2015 Top 4 each performed two songs. One song is linked to a judge’s hometown; the other song has connection to the contestant’s soul.

The April 29 episode of “American Idol” Season 14 features the first time for an Idol hopeful to get eliminated mid-show. This is also the first season in which results-only nights were dropped.

Among the live performances of the Idol Top 4, Jax’s version of Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind” was one of the audience favourites. Judge JLo said Jax understands she can win the competition. Rayvon Owen’s version of “Believe” by Justin Bieber was also well-received.

“You sang phenomenally,” “American Idol” 2015 judge Keith Urban told Rayvon Owen after his “Believe” performance. Nick Fradiani took on Rascal Flatts’ “What Hurts The Most” and got the “star of the night” recognition from judge Jennifer Lopez.

Clark Beckham opened the show with “Living for the City” by Stevie Wonder. It was a “good start” to the show, according to the Idol judges.

Russel Crowe was in the opening of Wednesday’s “American Idol” 2015 episode 27. Former Idol judge Steven Tyler of Aerosmith also dropped by to hang with the Top 5. This week’s mentors are country superstar Martina McBride and Rascal Flatts’ Jay DeMarcus.
