In 2014, when the Android 5.0 Lollipop was announced, Sony was one of the first smartphone brands to proclaim the list of Sony smartphones and tablets that would receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. At present, even the flagship Xperia models have not received the update. A recent tweet from the manufacturer claims that the update will be made available to the entire Xperia Z models.

According to the tweet from Sony Xperia News, Sony is currently testing the Lollipop update and is quite focused on making it available soon for all the Xperia Z smartphones and tablets. However, it has refrained from revealing a proper time frame for the arrival of the update. The tweet only says that more news on the update will be revealed soon.

Sony’s tweet has been met with negative responses from users who have been waiting in anguish for the arrival of the Lollipop update. Android Geeks claim that the probable reason behind the Lollipop update delay is that the developers are trying to fix all the bugs associated with the firmware.

According to the Xperia Blog, a video has emerged from the Mobile World Congress (2015) event that was held on March 2 in Barcelona, Spain. The video shows the Xperia Z3 running on the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. The build number of the firmware is 23.1.A.0.632.

The new build shows the arrival of new soft keys, improved launcher, apps now sport redesigned icons, revamped notification menu and so on. The Xperia Blog also highlights that the performance of the build appears to be very snappy.

Moreover, on Feb 19, the International Business Times had published that 5.0 Lollipop update for the Xperia Z3 and the Xperia Z2 has been approved. In October 2014, Sony had released an entire list of products that would receive the Android 5.0 upgrade.

As of this writing, the only Xperia model that has received the upgrade is the Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition handset. And the newly launched, Sony Xperia M4 Aqua is expected to be shipped with Android 5.0 Lollipop preloaded on it.
