Sony Xperia users are anticipating Android Jelly Bean updates, and they are forced to patiently wait until Sony finishes their testing. But recently, Sony sent out the good news that some Xperia phones are going to receive updates really soon as the testing reaches the final stage.

Sony specifically mentioned upcoming updates for Xperia P, Xperia Go, Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia Arco S and Xperia Ion. The downside is no date yet has been confirmed when exactly the updates will be released.

Sony Xperia Z runs Android 4.1.2 but the latest update for Android 4.2.2 hasn't been released yet, and it's a bit disappointing that their flagship device doesn't have the best Android version there is. For owners of Xperia Z who cannot wait for Android 4.2.2 update from Sony, CyanogenMod 10.1 is the best alternative today.

Free Xperia Project released an unofficial CyanogenMod version of Android 4.2.2 for Sony Xperia Z. The version is still in early stages which mean certain Sony features will not be available yet such as the Sony Bravia Engine and Stamina Mode. But there are solutions for these missing features by obtaining them from other sources to replicate the stock apps.

The early version has bugs as well which may not be that interesting for daily use, unless you won't mind. But do not be discouraged just yet since Sony recently rolled out a kernel source which is very useful for CyanogenMod developers. Right now, the CM10.1 for Sony Xperia Z is still under development, and thus, unofficial.
