Apple launches new TV with touchscreen remote and Siri functionality
The newly revamped Apple TV has just been unveiled by Apple during the tech giant's special event on Wednesday. Now, the TV-streaming box has a Wii-style remote control as well as an entirely new operating system.
The Verge has reported that the box, itself, does not reflect any significant changes - except being a bit taller than the previous one - but the entire package does boast of improvements.
As mentioned, the new Apple TV's package will come with a glass remote piece that has glass material. It allows users to navigate the new interface by swiping across apps. To go through the provided titles, users may use the remote to go through them one by one. Making one big swipe to a single direction will move all the way to the end of the list.
Basically, this new contraption closely follows its users' movements. It will even detect where the thumb is placed as the user lingers on a certain title. Plus, one particular result that has made the increased touch sensitivity feature even more helpful for users is that it permits them to fast forward through the entire movie or TV show that is playing, as Tech Times has pointed out.
Plus, Apple has added its digital personal assistant to the box. Now, users can access Siri by holding down a new button on the remote control. By using Siri, Apple TV users can search across a multitude of apps, such as Hulu, iTunes, and Netflix to look for a certain title. All results will then be displayed on a single screen for the users' convenience.
Siri has made searching for titles on the new Apple TV easier by finding titles based on specific categories set up by the user. Now, users - by asking Siri - can find titles based on its cast, director, genre and even by its age rating. Asking Siri to play a certain TV show episode that featured a certain actor has now been made possible.
