Video games will be the new Apple TV's primary selling point
The redesigned Apple TV's primary selling point is expected to take an interesting turn and focus on video games. This particular information will reportedly be revealed once the much awaited device is finally unveiled at the Cupertino tech giant's Sept. 9 event.
With Apple's decision to use the Apple TV as the medium for its re-entry into the video games industry, it is expected that the company just might even shake up the gaming console market, according to Tech Times.
The news about Apple using video games as the new Apple TV's primary selling point was first reported by The New York Times. The device's previous version was primarily used for streaming videos and music. Although such services are still available when the new, revamped unit is released, one other type of media - video games - is added to the mix.
It must be noted, though, that it remains unclear precisely how compelling a video game-focused Apple TV would turn out to be. However, video gamers are expecting the device to give them an enjoyable gaming experience, especially since Tech Times is convinced that it will have better graphics, a new app store for downloading new video games, and a new Wii-style remote control - which could double as a console controller.
Jan Dawson, the Chief Analyst at Jackdaw Research, is convinced that Apple can potentially make it big in the video game industry. That said, it is possible that the company can bring casual gaming to the living room - making video gaming more of a social activity.
However, there are still pessimists who do not think that Apple will even end up making a dent in swaying hardcore video game players and making them turn their heads from their PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. Still, Apple has access to a wide market of casual gamers that it can sell the revamped Apple TV to, particularly since they might want to have a gaming experience that has less complicated controllers and has much lighter content.
