Finally to combat its battery anxiety, Apple has unveiled its own Smart Battery Case for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S. The Cupertino tech conglomerate claims that it will extend the iPhone's battery life to up to 18 hours of internet usage on LTE networks and 20 hours of video playback.

Available in two variants – Charcoal Gray and White, the product is available at US$99 (AU$137) on Apple’s online store. An iPhone will slip into the battery case like a regular case. When in use, the case will help the user monitor the battery status by displaying an “intelligent battery status” on the lock screen of the iPhones.

“Charge your iPhone and battery case simultaneously for increased talk time up to 25 hours,” says Apple.

It can be charged through a standard Lightning port. There is no need to carry extra cables as the Smart Battery Case also supports Lightning accessories like USB Cable and the iPhone Lightning Dock.

The Verge review states that while simultaneously charging both the iPhone and the smart case, when both devices reach 100 per cent, the phone will drain the case’s battery first. Apple has not confirmed if similar products will be available for older iPhones or even for the plus variants of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s.

For a long time, users have been using third-party battery cases for iPhones. The Incipio Offgrid Express is one the best and highly rated battery cases for iPhone 6 available in the market. It comes packed with a massive 3,000mAh battery, yet in a slim, lightweight design. It also has a LED lit battery meter which help users to check the current battery status. It can fully juice up a dead iPhone in just couple of hours.
