Apple will start rolling out iOS 9 for all iPhone, iPad and iPod users across the globe starting Sept. 16. The latest version of the operating system will bring in proactive suggestive search, refinements in user interface and improved privacy features.

With the new operating system on board, the iPhone user will always be assisted to search for information at any given time of the day based on habits, location, or time of day. The device will intelligently suggest actions to the user depending on the apps that they frequently use at that time of the day.

“iOS 9 is packed with intelligence that makes every experience with iPhone and iPad even more powerful — Siri can do more than ever and new proactive assistance helps you get more done before you ask, all while protecting users’ privacy,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, in a press note.

iPads will get a whole new dimension with the latest version of the OS. Along with multitasking features, a new Picture-in-Picture will allow users to play video or continue with the Facetime call while using another app or even browsing the web. Features like Slide Over and Split View will further enhance multitasking. The multitasking mode will allow iPad users to run two apps simultaneously, like Galaxy tablets, reports The Verge.

Typing and editing will be faster and easier as the new OS will also provide convenient editing tools of Shortcut Bar and Multi-Touch. The latest update comes with a refined Notes app which allows user to draw a sketch with their finger. Users can also incorporate an image into the note; create, save and track a checklist within the Notes app.

The iOS 9 will also introduce new capabilities of Apple Pay by extending its support for merchant reward programs and store issued credit and debit cards. The fresh News app will monitor the user’s interests and come up with suggestions with the top news covering over one million topics. It is worth mentioning that the service is country specific.

The Map app now provide transit information like train timings, combination of trains and its schedule, way to the subway station exits in great detail. Transit information is available in cities like Berlin, Baltimore, Chicago, London, Mexico City, New York City, Philadelphia, the San Francisco Bay Area, Toronto and Washington D.C. Other refinements with the iOS 9 include Low Power Mode to augment battery life and improved two-factor authentication to enhance privacy and security

The software update will be preinstalled on the newly released iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, once available from Sep. 25. The iOS 9 is compatible with the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, 5c, 5, iPhone 4s, iPad Pro, iPad 2 or later, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad mini or later and the fifth and sixth generation iPod touch.
