Arsenal first-choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has signed a new long term contract for the Gunners according to club's official Website.

The Poland international initially joined Arsenal as a part of their youth program in 2006, coming through the ranks and eventually making it to the first-team.

Szczesny made his breakthrough during the 2011/12 season, starting every English Premier League game for the Gunners, while making a total of 108 saves in all competitions.

He initially lost his spot to compatriot Lukasz Fabianski in the 2012/13 season, but made a great comeback after Fabianski went down with a rib injury.

"I am very pleased to have signed a new contract. Arsenal is like my family and I'm so happy to be committing my long-term future here," Szczesny told arsenal.com.

"I've been at this Club for over seven years now and I'd just like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their support towards me during my time here."

He enthusiastically recalled great memories when he first arrived at the Emirates.

"Many people have given me amazing support since I arrived as a boy, people like Tony Roberts, who helped my development as a player from a young age," he said.

"I'm so proud to be an Arsenal player and am looking forward to helping our Club towards success in the years to come."

Club boss Arsene Wenger, who recently signed a long-term deal with the Gunners himself, was equally appreciative with the development involving his number 1 keeper.

"We're very pleased Wojciech has signed a new long-term contract. I have always believed he is an extremely talented player, with excellent reflexes and good mental strength," said Wenger.

"He continues to grow and improve all the time too, so he has the potential to be even better. He can be an important part of Arsenal Football Club for many years to come."
