Over the past six years, the “Assassin’s Creed” franchise has taken gamers on adventures in time frames ranging from The Third Crusade in Jerusalem to Renaissance Italy to Revolutionary France and beyond. Publisher Ubisoft has just announced a brand new trilogy of games in the long-running series: “Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China,” “Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: India” and “Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia.”

The announcement was made via a press release on the official Ubisoft forums, which states that each entry in the trilogy will be released separately on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, with “Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China” the first out of the gate on April 21. Each game will be released digitally on Xbox Live and via PSN at a $10 price-point. The games are being developed by London-based Climax Studios in collaboration with “Assassin’s Creed” developer Ubisoft Montreal. Climax Studios is notable for its work on “Silent Hill: Origins” and “Silent Hill: Shattered Memories” as well as the PS2 racing game “ATV Offroad Fury 3.”

The first game, “Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China,” is set in 1526, during the fall of the Ming Dynasty. The second, “Chronicles: India,” sees the Sikh Empire embroiled in a bloody war, while the third, “Chronicles: Russia,” is set in the aftermath of the Red October Revolution. While each game takes place during a different time period in a different part of the world, there is an overarching narrative that binds all three together.

A beautifully rendered trailer hosted on the official Assassin’s Creed YouTube channel shows off a new graphical style for an “Assassin’s Creed” game. The visuals mimic the look of hand-painted art, and the trailer introduces the trilogy’s three protagonists: Shao Jun from the animated short “Assassin’s Creed Embers” and Arbaaz Mir and Nikolaï Orelov from the “Assassin’s Creed” graphic novels.

As noted by PCGamer, “Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China” was originally included as part of the cancelled season pass for last year’s “Assassin’s Creed Unity.” After the cancellation of the season pass, Ubisoft offered those who purchased the pass their choice of “The Crew,” “Far Cry 4,” “Watch_Dogs,” “Assassin's Creed: Black Flag,” Rayman Legends,” or “Just Dance 2015” free of charge. The publisher also assured purchasers that they would continue to have access to additional content, including “Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China.”
