AT&T has just sent the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update to its Samsung Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy Note 4 units. Both phablets were launched at the company's IFA event last year and came out of its package running on Android 4.4 KitKat.

Tech users expect the update to improve their phablet’s overall performance and make their phablets more secure despite AT&T not having given away any changelog for the update.

Samsung didn’t delay sending out updates to international variants of its phablets. Tech Times, however, pointed out the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update doesn’t have a bug fix for the Stagefright vulnerability. That said, it remains unclear if the AT&T versions of the Samsung phablets will get a fix for the Stagefright malware at all, said Techno Buffallo.

Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy Note 4 users will be notified once the update is available for installation and download. In those cases where no notification has been received, owners can easily check for the OTA update.

They only have to visit Settings, About Phone, Software Updates and tap on the Check for Updates tab. Doing so will immediately begin the installation process.

The size of the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update amounts to about 700 MB. As a precaution, it’s best to make sure there’s enough storage space before beginning the download. Also, it’s advised to make sure the phablet is connected to a strong, stable Wi-Fi connection and that the phablet’s battery holds a 60 percent charge.

Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge aren’t the only Samsung devices to get the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update. Late last month, the Korean tech giant's Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 also got the update.
