Judge Edward Newman of Miami-Dade county granted a continuance of up to July 25 for actor Matthew Newton to prepare for his trial.

It was last April 17 that the Australian actor was accused of punching a hotel clerk straight on the face in Miami. The 35-year-old star of 'Underbelly' was given six weeks to prepare or decide to settle with his prosecutors. Newton's charges include battery counts and the resist of arrest.

A video emerged from a CCTV camera of the Courtyard Marriott Hotel where Newton was staying which showed the actor punching the clerk, Ariel Vargas.

According to the actor's lawyer, Newton has not given any guilty pleas to the charges he is currently facing.

As a matter of fact, Judge Newman will also be hearing another set of charges on the actor which happened at Mr. Moe's Restaurant and Bar in Coconut Grove last April 6.

As per the Aussie lawyer of Newton, Chris Murphy, his client has a clear chance of suffering from a bipolar disorder.
