'Avengers: Age Of Ultron': Anthony Mackie Talks Becoming Captain America, Falcon And Cap's 'Soldier Respect'
Falcon is set to make a cameo appearance in the much-anticipated “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” The sequel will ultimately give viewers an in-depth look at the character’s relationship with his partner Captain America. It’s been widely speculated that Falcon will be the next Captain America after Steve Rogers gives up his shield at the end of “Civil War.” Anthony Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson a.k.a. Falcon, recently commented on reports of his character taking on the hero suit and also further provides details on Falcon’s relationship with Cap.
During the 2015 Emerald City Comic-Con held at the Washington State Convention Centre on March 29, Anthony Mackie answered questions from fans about his role in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and his character’s relationship with Captain America (Chris Evans). According to Comicbookmovie, the actor was asked for any similarities between Cap and Falcon’s relationship with that of DC’s Batman and Robin tandem, to which he replied, "With Falcon and Cap, what's so great is there's a mutual respect."
Anthony Mackie is expected to have a brief appearance only as Falcon in “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” However, it’s reportedly enough to show viewers how that “soldier respect” between Falcon and Captain America develops. “What’s great about Age of Ultron and [Civil War] is you get to see their relationship grow,” he said.
Anthony Mackie had previously insisted that Falcon’s relationship with Captain America should not be equated with the Batman and Robin working dynamic. In an interview with MTV, the actor said that Cap and Falcon has a respect relationship. Theirs is said to be a working relationship where there is no leader and no follower.
According to Comicbookresources, Anthony Mackie was also asked during the Emerald City Comic-Con whether his version of Sam Wilson or the Falcon will be similar to the comics, where Falcon eventually becomes the new Captain America. However, instead of giving a direct yes or no reply, the actor opted to express his appreciation for his “Captain America” co-stars and said, “To go to work with those people every day, I'm very content and happy to be Falcon, next to Captain America.” Mackie further added that he’s “good” with being Falcon if it means continuing doing movies with Chris Evans.
