‘The Bastard Executioner’: Kurt Sutter Found His Ventris, Brían F. O'Byrne
“The Bastard Executioner” series creator Kurt Sutter finally found the missing piece to his new medieval drama series after wrapping up his FX biker drama show “Sons of Anarchy.” Sutter announced on March 25, Wednesday, the new addition to his #TBX ensemble via Instagram with Irish actor Brían F. O'Byrne playing the role of Ventris.
“Finished #TheLastShip this morning , rushing to airport to go to Wales to begin #TheBastardExecutioner Monday #phew,” O'Byrne tweeted on Friday, March 20, before joining “The Bastard Executiner” cast and crew in Wales.

- Born in Mullagh, Country Cavan, Ireland; Brían F. O'Byrne is known for his roles in Clint Eastwood’s “Million Dollar Baby” as Father Horvak, “The New World” as Lewes, “The International” as The Consultant and “No Reservations” as Sean. The 47-year-old actor also played Detective Mick Moynihan in an Irish crime drama “Love/Hate.”
- After wrapping up his role RTE Television, the actor joined Mark Moses and Nick Court in the upcoming season of TNT’s “The Last Ship.” The new post-apocalyptic drama series is based on the novel of the same name written by William Brinkely
- The actor is set to play alongside “True Blood” star Stephen Moyer in Kurt Sutter’s “The Bastard Executioner.” Moyer will play as the street smart and noble savvy Milus Brobett, one of Ventris’ former marshals who now serves as is Chamberlain, Chancellor and Justiciar. The two actors are set to play as friends and drinking mate.
- “Leonardo” star Flora Spencer-Longhurst will star opposite O'Byrne as Baroness Lowry "Love" Aberffraw Ventris. From a wealthy Welsh family, Spencer-Longhurst’s character married Ventris when she was 17 to protect her family’s land. Cunning but kind and beautiful, Lady Ventirs’ noble duties is always in conflict with her Welsh pride.
- Before landing his role in “The Bastard Executioner,” O'Byrne was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie for his role as Bert Pierce in “Mildred Pierce.” The actor is married to American actress Heather Goldenhersh, and the couple has two daughters together.
