In the battle between Batman and Superman, Lex Luthor is said to be the mediator and believed to be in control of Kal-El himself. Some scenes from the recent trailer for “Dawn of Justice” released at the San Diego Comic-Con somehow support this theory.

According to Cinema Blend, Lex Luthor “has some kind of leverage over Superman.” The site credits this theory to a scene in the trailer that shows Kal-El kneeling down to Lex. As seen in the video below at the 1:53 time stamp, Lex gives a smug smile as he mocks a show of affection towards the kneeling Superman.

It’s unclear why the Man of Steel is on his knees before his arch-nemesis. Cinema Blend claims that perhaps mind control is involved as Superman is clearly also not happy with his position. Perhaps Superman is weakened by the huge Kryptonite that is in Lex Luthor’s possession. The scene at the 2:47 time mark from the “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” trailer shows Lex staring intently at the rock.

Lex reportedly has the Kryptonite stored in his laboratory inside Lexcorp. A source once revealed to Geek Tyrant that even Batman dared to break inside the company to steal some Kryptonite to create his weapon against Superman. This scene aligns with an old rumour claiming the Dark Knight will wield a Kryptonite spear during his epic battle with the Man of Steel.

Lex Luthor does not only exercise his power within the walls of Lexcorp. It extends towards the high officials in the government, which points to Holly Hunter’s role as a senator in “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.” This scene at the 1:48 time stamp shows Hunter entering Lex office where they clearly talk about Superman. It’s unclear what transpired during their meeting. But according to Cinema Blend, it seems Lex is manipulating the senator into agreeing with his plan of taking down Kal-El. Lex tries to convince Holly Hunter’s unnamed senator with his “Devils don’t come from hell beneath us… they come from the sky” speech.

Then there’s the brief glimpse of General Zod’s corpse at the 1:59 scene, which teases the rumoured appearance of Doomsday in “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.” It’s been speculated that Lex Luthor is holding on to the general’s dead body in his attempt to further understand Superman. It’s reportedly during his study that he accidentally triggers a genome that turns the corpse into Doomsday, the Kryptonian monster that might just be Lex’s weapon in defeating Superman.
