Best Smartphones Of 2014 Based On Battery Life
When buying a smartphone, one of the make-or-break influencing factors got to be the battery capacity, along with the capability to sustain the charge. And mobile manufacturers are spending their fortune in researching and developing devices that are ultra thin, at the same time house battery units that can provide more juice. Keeping up with the trend and preference, here is a list of flagship smartphones of 2014 and their scores derived from custom battery test.
The tabular column below should help the first time buyers and also the ones who are planning to upgrade their handsets to make informed choice. Going by the results, there is a whopping 25 to 100 percent longer battery life improvement in the devices released in 2014, whereas the 2013 trend was not as earth-shattering as this year, opines Phone Arena.
This year's significant battery improvement is also because of the introduction of battery saving modes by top manufacturers. This trend was started by Samsung with the debut of Ultra Power Saving Mode in the Galaxy S5. This mode saves battery by making the screen switch to classic black-and-white mode from the standard colour mode. However, other manufacturers have also jumped on the bandwagon. This includes HTC's Extreme Power Saving Mode, latest Sony Xperia Z3's Ultra STAMINA Mode and LG's Battery Saver Mode. Interestingly, Huawei's battery saver shares the name with Samsung's Ultra Power Saving Mode.
In any case, a peculiar point needs to be noted. Not all the smartphone manufacturers have increased the battery capacity to boost the battery life. In the case of Sony Xperia Z3, the company was able to multiply the battery life with a slight decrease in battery capacity from that of the predecessor Xperia Z2. As a result, the Xperia Z3 is firmly seated after the Xperia Z3 Compact on the top of the table. Samsung, on the other hand, increased the battery capacity to a bare minimum level; nevertheless, it was able to squeeze out more battery charge. This means, mobile manufacturers are concentrating on the under the hood configurations to optimise the power usage and in turn save battery charge.
Meanwhile, LG G3 maintained the same battery capacity of LG G2; however, the screen is promoted to an ultra high-resolution Quad HD display. And this is the reason why G3 uses more power to function, thereby reducing battery life.
