Beyoncé’s Topshop sportswear venture with Philip Green to launch in April
Beyoncé's collaboration with top British retailer and businessman Sir Philip Green was announced last year but Green has now confirmed the association on Wednesday, saying that the joint sports and streetwear venture will launch in April 2016.
The British high street giant has joined forces with Beyoncé to create a 50-50 fashion venture, which is a new experiment for Green Parkwood Topshop Athletic Ltd -- the new company created by the duo, The Independent reports. The singer's venture will be stylish and functional. The company will produce clothing, footwear and accessories. These products will be used for dance, fitness and sports.
“We are developing our distribution globally for the launch of this exciting new brand in spring 2016,” a statement from Taveta said, according to BBC. Taveta is a part of the Arcadia Group owned by Green. He also hopes to expand the Beyoncé range up to 25 countries. These include Australia and Canada as well as the US and mainland Europe, The Guardian reports.
He admitted that the launch had been delayed by a few months, but said this was because the team wanted to ensure the technical aspects of the clothing had been fully tested. Green is the chairman of Arcadia Group, a retail giant that includes Topshop, Topman, Wallis, Evans, Burton, Miss Selfridge, Dorothy Perkins, Outfit and previously BHS.
“We have been looking at this category as fashion inspired fitness develops, and know that this is right in our customers’ heartland, said Green. He added that Beyoncé was one of the most hard-working and talented people in the world, who spends many hours of her life dancing, rehearsing and training. The British entrepreneur felt that it was a unique opportunity to develop this category with the singer.
The new venture is aimed for “women who go to yoga or the health club, as well as those who just want to look as if they do,” according to WWD.
The company had earlier collaborated with supermodels and celebrities such as Kate Moss and Kendall and Kylie Jenner, where the models created their lines. But, with the “Drunk In Love” hit maker, it will not be a mere collaboration but a whole company.
This is Topshop’s first shared venture, and Beyoncé’s first partnership with the label. The pop star already owns a clothing brand called House of Deron.
