Boxing icon and world’s only eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao and wife Jinkee Pacquiao arrived in London from Los Angeles on Wednesday, Jan. 21, to fulfil their lifelong dream of meeting the Queen at the Buckingham Palace. The self-confessed Anglophile and a huge fan of the royal family was invited to have tea with Prince Harry on Friday, Jan. 23. The two discussed about their charitable interests.
Listed by Forbes magazine as the 11th highest paid athlete in the world, Manny Pacquiao is also a congressman in his hometown in the Philippines. Together with his wife, the Filipino boxer was given a tour around the Buckingham Palace. He gave the 30-year-old royal a pair of boxing gloves with his autograph.
Snapshots of Manny Pacquiao and Prince Harry trended online and was posted on Twitter and Instagram under Emmanuel Pacquiao’s account (@emmanuelpacquiao). The photos show the Prince holding Manny’s gift and there is another snap of his wife and Harry. Back in 2008, Pacquiao was interviewed by Telegraph’s boxing correspondent Gareth Davies and was told that he was a stone’s throw away from the Buckingham Palace. "The prize-fighter could barely contain his excitement,” said according to the Telegraph.
Meanwhile, Pacquiao showed his impressive Scottish accent when he visited American-based British football champ Robert Bennet and Micheal Davies of “Men in Blazers." The famed boxer got his inspiration from “Braveheart’s” William Wallace and even quoted a line saying that he was “fighting for freedom against Englishmen.”
Now in negotiations for his USD 300 million fight with Floyd Mayweather, Pacquiao is keen to face the unbeaten American boxer in Las Vegas in May. The fight would be the biggest fight in the sport’s history as per global interest, ticket sales and pay-per-view revenue.
