With the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao bout possibly on the horizon, boxing enthusiasts are making their opinions known on the probable result of the super fight between the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world. One such boxing observer is Jose Morales— the father of Erik Morales— and the elder Morales believes that Pacquiao’s skill and aggressiveness will easily win the fight against Mayweather.

The Morales father-and-son pair is of course familiar with Pacquiao’s fighting style; the younger Morales suffered his worst losses in his boxing career against the Filipino way back in 2006.

Mark "Scoop" Malinowski of ringobserver.com talked to the elder Morales and the latter did not leave any doubt on which fighter he thinks will come out victorious in the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao match-up.

“I believe Manny Pacquiao will win the fight by the eighth round. He’s more aggressive. He’s very aggressive. He’s very sharp, throws many accurate punches and keeps the pressure on his opponents. That’s why he will win.” Jose Morales said in the interview. “The punch of Manny Pacquiao can kill him very easily. It can put him down very easily. So he cannot handle that.”

Morales, showing his knowledge and history of the sport, mentioned the Jose Luis Castillo vs. Mayweather Jr. fight in 2002 and claimed that Castillo’s aggression put the defensive Mayweather in a world of trouble in the pair of meetings that year. Mayweather Jr. won both times against Castillo, but the scores were close; 116-111, 115-111, 115-111 in April 2002 match and then an even closer 115-113, 116-113, 115-113 score in the rematch in December 2002.

Morales’ son Erik was sent into virtual retirement, or at least, insignificance, by Pacquiao after the brutal losses in 2006. Erik lost via a 10th round technical knockout, or TKO, on January that year then got pulverised in the third round with a knockout in the third meeting on November 2006. Morales did win via unanimous decision, 115-113, 115-113, 115-113 over Pacquiao on March 2005 in the first bout of their trilogy. Erik Morales was never the same legendary fighter after those Pacquiao losses going 4-4 in the last eight bouts of his career.

Jose Morales, who trained the likes of Jorge Arce, Yory Boy Campas plus Castillo and his son Erik, probably remembers those two career-ending losses to Pacquiao and thinks that Mayweather Jr. will suffer the same fate if they eventually meet in the squared circle.
