Bayern Munich were crowned Bundesliga champions on Sunday after Wolfsburg's loss to Borussia Monchengladbach on Sunday. It’s the third league title in a row for the club.

Wolfsburg, in second place, lost to Bayern’s rivals Borussia Monchengladbach 1-0 on Sunday handing the champions an unassailable 15 point lead with four games to go. It was also Bayern’s record 25th championship in Bundesliga history.

Pep Guardiola rested both Juan Bernat and Thiago Alcantara with an eye towards the upcoming DFB Pokal semi-final clash against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday as youngsters Gianluca Guadino and Mitchell Weiser came into the side. Bayern continued to dominate, however, with a whopping 79% of possession and 16 attempts on goal.

It was Berlin, however, who created the first chance, with Valentin Stocker going close with a right footed attempt as early as the ninth minute. And although Bayern dominated from then on in terms of possession, they created few chances, attempting only six shots, two of which were on target. Hertha Berlin again threatened in the second half when Nico Schulz found himself one on one with Manuel Neuer, but the latter came up with a superb one armed save to deny them.

Mitchell Weiser then went on a superb run in the 80th minute, beating three Berlin defenders to the by-line before cutting the ball into the box for Bastian Schweinsteiger to finish coolly. It was the second time in three seasons that the midfielder scored the championship winning goal.

"Retaining the title is a magnificent achievement. All credit to the coach and the team. They've been fantastic throughout, in a season following a World Cup where we had a host of players in action," club president Karl-Heinze Rummenigge said in a statement reported by Reuters.

Bayern also have a chance of winning the treble this season, with the club still to play in the DFB Pokal semi-finals against Dortmund and also the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, where they will take on Pep Guardiola’s old side Barcelona.
