Canadian Dentist, U.S. Scientists Plan to Clone John Lennon Using DNA from Tooth (VIDEOS)
Can you imagine John Lennon coming back to life and singing that ballad to you personally?
A Canadian dentist is teaming up with American scientists in a plan to clone one of the most popular Beatles member, John Lennon, using DNA from his tooth.
Michael Zuk, the Canadian dentist acquired in 2011 Mr Lennon's tooth for more than $30,000 at an auction in Britain. The rotten tooth was freshly extracted which Mr Lennon gave to his housekeeper Dot Jarlett in the 1960s.
The tooth will go under the microscope as the American researchers with whom Mr Zuk joined forces, to extract the singer's genetic code.
"Many Beatles fans remember where they were when they head John Lennon was shot. I hope they also live to hear the day he was given another chance," the dentist said on his Web site.
The plan to clone the singer, famous for his Imagine song above, could lead to more debates over the ethics of cloning humans. Lennon was shot dead by Mark Chapman on Dec 8, 1980 while returning to his apartment in New York. He was 40.
