Carlos Vigil: Gay Teen from New Mexico Commits Suicide Due to Bullying of Classmates
A gay teenager named Carlos Vigil from Valencia County, New Mexico, was constantly bullied by his classmates for his sexual orientation, and it pushed the 17-year-old high school student to take his own life during the weekend. Before Carlos committed suicide, he even posted a note on his Twitter account on Saturday afternoon apologising for "not being a person that would make someone proud."

The brief message that Carlos left behind showed the suffering he had to endure because of bullying. "I'm sorry to those I offended over the years. I'm blind to see that I, as a human being, suck. I'm an individual who is doing an injustice to the world and it's time for me to leave. The kids in school are right, I am a loser, a freak and a fag and in no way is that acceptable for people to deal with. I'm sorry for not being a person that would make people proud," the post on Carlos' Twitter account @Chillll read.
Carlos' upset mother, Jacqueline, confided that bullying is the reason behind her son's death. "He is not here because of bullying. It drove him over the edge," Jacqueline stated.

Jacqueline further revealed to local news channel KRQE 13 that her son has been enduring bullies since he was 8 years old. "He had this lunchbox, a smiley face lunchbox, and people thought it was the funniest lunchbox ever, and they made fun of him for it. They grabbed it on the school bus and just threw it on the floor and broke it. It's just little things like that," the grieving mother shared.
Ray Vigil, Carlos' father, went home immediately after seeing his son's post on Twitter, but it was already too late. According to Ray, Carlos had been insulted for being gay, having acne and wearing eyeglasses.
"We found out three years ago that he was going through this stuff and we've been trying to help him every day since. We realize he's been going through it every day since he was in the third grade, that's a long time for a child to hold that within himself. Carlos wanted to be accepted by all, when he only needed to be accepted by himself," Carlos' father revealed.
According to the New York Daily News report, Carlos' life support was taken off at the University of New Mexico Hospital on Tuesday, July 16. Carlos' family used his Twitter account to write the message: "1:47 am, Carlos is finally at peace! Thank you everyone for your support and prayers. Please don't forget what he wanted STOP THE BULLYING."
