Channing Tatum Talks ‘Gambit’ Spinoff, Provides Script Details
Channing Tatum recently revealed further details about his plans of having a “Gambit” origin story. The actor also teased that changes will be made in the script to provide an exciting “X-Men” spinoff film.
Channing Tatum shared some details about the current status of his “X-Men” spinoff film Gambit in the latest issue of Empire Magazine. The actor teased how fans would be thrilled to watch the film based on the current draft of the script. “Josh Zetumer just turned in the first draft of the script, and it's killer, “he said.
The actor also revealed how “Gambit” will be made into an origin story. “We’re going to be changing some of the tropes of these movies,” he said, although didn’t exactly reveal specific details. “It’s always about saving the world but maybe we’re going to shift things a little bit,” he added.
A “Gambit” origin story could reportedly be made in different ways. Channing cited “Batman Begins” as an example. Or it could supposedly also go in a different route like James Gunn’s version of “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Channing Tatum didn’t provide any more details but expressed how he’s “super excited” for his “X-Men” spinoff film.
Channing also talked about how he loves Gambit in a personal level since he could relate to the character’s culture. The actor recalled how he grew up in the South and when he’d go to New Orleans he would hear all the dialects, which he said sounded so different from America. It supposedly sounded like New Orleans has its own ancient culture.
Tatum said among the “X-Men” characters Gambit seems the “most real” to him. The actor considered Gambit as a badass character and some kind of tortured soul who’s neither a good guy nor a bad guy. Tatum said Gambit makes his own destiny.
Fans have been wondering whether Gambit will make a cameo appearance in “X-Men” Apocalypse. However, per Slashfilm it’s unlikely for the character to be in the ensemble movie considering Channing Tatum’s intent to introduce Gambit first in a spinoff film with an origin story.
Channing Tatum somehow also confirmed Gambit will not be in “X-Men: Apocalypse” during an interview with MTV News. When asked if his character will be in the sequel, Tatum said, “I don't want to introduce Gambit until you can really explain who Gambit is.”
