Chelsea target Fredy Guarin could be heading to Stamford Bridge unexpectedly this January as Inter Milan president Erick Thohir made a surprise announcement concerning the midfielder's future.

"Guarin is an excellent player and we'd like to keep him, but when there are offers from big clubs you need to take it into consideration," Thohir told Liputan6.com.

"We can't force him to stay if his heart isn't in the club."

While Thohir did not expressly name any club when he made the announcement, all arrows point to west London because of previous formal talks held by Inter and Chelsea.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho has been chasing the versatile player since his days with Real Madrid, but may seem to have the best chance of acquiring the Colombian this time.

Meanwhile, Thohir further stated in another interview that the Nerazzurri will be undergoing a squad overhaul wherein some players will be sold to fund future acquisitions.

"The January window comprises of a series of opportunities in the market," he told Republika Online.

"In any case, we have to sell before making any purchase."

"Our project is clear, there is no doubt about this. We want to build a healthy club, competitive in the industry, so this year we are going through a state of transition."
