Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic will be reuniting with his former club, Chelsea, as talks are in its adavanced stages, according to reports.

According to sources, he will be undergoing a medical at the Cobham Training Centre - Chelsea's training ground - on Tuesday.

The Serbian was signed by the Blues in 2009 for a fee of £1.5 million from Slovak club MFK Košice, but was later on involved as a makeweight in a player-plus-cash swoop in 2011 wherein the west Londoners acquired David Luiz, while sending Matic the opposite way.

Since then, the 25-year-old rose to prominence in Portugal, using his athleticism and imposing 6ft 4in frame to harass the opposition, while providing precise passes in transition.

Rumours claim that the Premier League side has made an offer of £20 million to the FIFA Puskas Award nominee, who neither confirmed nor deny any of the circulating speculations.

"I still can't say anything about this, let's see what happens in the future, you have to ask the club and the president," Matic told A Bola.

But, he did not rule out a possibility for a move this January.

"If it's good for the club and for me, we'll talk. Let's see what happens until 31 January," he added.

Matic is understood to reinforce the central midfield, replacing outgoing attacker Kevin de Bruyne in the Chelsea squad.
