Danny Ings Says First Goal For Liverpool Was A 'Massive Moment'
Liverpool striker Danny Ings has described his first goal for the Reds as a “massive moment” which will help him build momentum to “get many more” goals for the club. The 22-year-old Ings scored one of the two goals in the club’s friendly 2-0 win over Adelaide United.
Ings netted his first Liverpool goal late in the second half after midfielder James Milner got onto the end of Jordan Ibe’s cross to convert in the 67th minute mark. Ings was thrilled about his chances to help Liverpool for their campaign in the upcoming season.
"When you come to a club like Liverpool, the sheer size of it, it's a big deal. I'm just delighted that I've got my first goal now and hopefully I can build on that and get many more,” Ings said as noted by Goal.com.
Liverpool acquired Ings earlier this summer on a free transfer after the English footballer’s contract with Burnley expired. Ings has been hopeful to get everything going at Anfield once they open their Premiere League bid. "On a personal level, hopefully I can get as much football as I can, score as many goals for the team as I can and be successful as a team," Ings added. "It's not an individual game, it's a team game and I think with the players we've got and the staff we've got we can go a long way."
After the win against Adelaide, Liverpool manager Brendan Rogers has expressed his strong desire to return to Australia as soon as possible, Sydney Morning Herald reported. Rogers’ squad performed before 53,008 spectators on Monday night which made him feel Aussies’ “passion for football.” He added that it was a “great honour” to play on the other side of the world and would certainly come back as soon as the team could.
The match at Adelaide Oval was the team’s third preseason fixture. They beat Brisbane Roar 2-1 on Friday night in front of a jam-packed crowd of more than 50,000. The Reds will open their season on August 8 against Stoke City at Anfield Stadium.
