‘Deadpool' Production Update: Ryan Reynolds Teases Comicbook Origin
“Deadpool” star Ryan Reynolds, who is set to play the titular character, recently revealed some details into the production of the film. The actor teased the inspiration behind the movie adaptation, saying the film will surely please comic book fans.
Ryan Reynolds briefly talked about his solo “Deadpool” movie during an interview with Shortlist about his new film “Voices.” The actor was asked if he is “relieved” over the confirmed 2016 release of “Deadpool,” to which he replied he is “incredibly happy.” The actor further revealed “Deadpool” is in good hands because of the director’s understanding of the comicbook world, and for the “slavish devotion” of screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to the character’s canon. “That’s the most important aspect: it’s made in a way the most critical of fanboys could embrace,” he added.
According to Screenrant, Ryan Reynolds’ last statement about “critical” fanboys embracing the movie is said to be an indication that the solo film will likely be an origin story, taking its inspiration from the comics. Reynolds’ standalone film will reportedly bring justice to the character, whose first introduction in “X-Men: Origins: Wolverine” was a failure. Screenrant claimed having the Merc With a Mouth done the proper way in the solo film is sure to be a key selling point to gain audiences from across the globe.
Meanwhile, Ryan Reynolds’ statement about “Deadpool” having screenwriters with “lavish devotion” to the character’s canon supposedly doesn’t necessarily mean the movie will recreate a page-by-page adaptation of the comics. According to Screenrant, the actor was perhaps only referring to Rhett and Paul’s drive in staying true to the character’s spirit based from the comics.
The leaked test footage for “Deadpool” was instrumental in the production of the movie. The footage reportedly received numerous positive responses that the #WhyNotDeadpool movement was coined, which in turn convinced Fox to greenlight the solo film for a February 2016 release. Ryan Reynolds had sworn he had no knowledge of who leaked the footage back in July, but confirmed with Yahoo Movies that it was 100 percent the reason why his solo film is back in development.
