Developer CD Projekt Red shifts focus to upcoming sci-fi RPG ‘Cyberpunk 2077’
Developer CD Projekt Red wowed gaming audiences with its most recent entry in its most popular franchise with “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.” Since its release, the game has been touted as one of the best video games. Many thought that the developer would use this hype to prepare a new entry in the series, but CD Projekt Red recently announced that it will be focusing on a different path for now.
CD Projekt Red revealed that most of its work force is exerting their efforts in developing the upcoming “Cyberpunk 2077.” The new title will very different from “The Witcher” series as the former is slated to be a sci-fi role-playing game set in a futuristic era. The developer had said before that the upcoming title could be revealed in 2017 as the earliest.
In an interview with GameSpot, the lead quest designer for CD Projekt Red, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, said that the studio is now gearing itself in developing “Cyberpunk 2007.” The much-anticipated sci-fi RPG has been kept in the dark since its reveal a couple of months ago, and nothing is known about it yet except for its setting. The developer also said before that it is going to be a bigger game than “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.”
"We are focusing on Cyberpunk 2077. It is a very ambitious and big project, and we need all the people we can get to finish it. A lot of the people in the company are [working on it], and more and more are getting involved in it... most people from the company are involved with this," Tomaszkiewicz told Gamespot.
Fans of the “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” shouldn’t be too disappointed about the news as the developer is still working toward supporting the title. In fact, the developer is already working on the next expansion for the game titled Blood and Wine. Video Gamer reports that it is scheduled to release sometime around the first quarter of 2016.
