Diablo 3 and Max Payne 3 topped the PC games sales as the two new releases set record-breaking figures.

Blizzard announced that 24 hours after its release Diablo 3 already sold more than 3.5 million copies, a new record for PC games sales. The figures include 1.2 million people who received the game after signing up for the World of Warcraft annual pass promotion. Blizzard noted that there are 6.3 million people playing Diablo 3.

"We're definitely thrilled that so many people around the world were excited to pick up their copy of Diablo 3 and jump in the moment it went live," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment.

"We also regret that our preparations were not enough to ensure everyone had a seamless experience when they did so. I want to reaffirm our commitment to make sure the millions of Diablo 3 players out there have a great experience with the game moving forward, and I also want to thank them for their ongoing support," he added.

Max Payne 3 did not do badly as well when it comes to sales. In the UK, Max Payne 3, crushed down Diablo 3 and FIFA Street in the All Format Gaming Chart. Max Payne may have done well despite being released almost at the same time as Diablo 3 because it is a game that can be played across different platforms unlike Diablo 3 that is an exclusive PC game. Moreover, the problem with the servers makes some buyers hesitate in buying a copy.

However, GameZone said that the sales charts can be misleading. This is further insinuated by media capitalizing on every possible story. There is no concrete figure on how much the two games sold in box copies and digital downloads.

However, there is no surprise when it comes to figures as both Amazon and GameStop said the game was one of their biggest video game launches ever.
