‘Doctor Strange': Rachel McAdams Confirms Casting Talks
It’s long been rumoured that Rachel McAdams has been cast in “Doctor Strange.” While Marvel and movie director Scott Derrickson are yet to confirm the news, the actress herself hinted her involvement in the film during a recent interview.
Rachel McAdams briefly talked about “Doctor Strange” while promoting her new film “Southpaw” and the season 2 of “True Detective.” During an interview with the LA Times, the 36-year old was asked about her rumoured role as female lead in Doctor Stephen Strange opposite leading star Benedict Cumberbatch. McAdams did not outright confirm the rumours. However, she confirmed that there have been early talks about her involvement in the film.
“It’s still super-early days, and I don’t know where that’s gonna go, if it’s gonna go anywhere at all,” she said.
According to Screenrant, this time the actress seemed certain of her involvement in “Doctor Strange.” In her previous interview with Den of Geek, McAdams was not so clear about early talks for her to appear in the comic book adaptation as she declined to talk about the film.
“There’s not really anything to comment on,” she said.
It’s believed Rachel McAdams will play as Strange’s love interest in the film. However, there has been no definite character name attached to the role. Speculations have been thrown in that perhaps she will play the role of Clea, Doctor Strange’s pupil and lover who eventually became his wife.
In the Marvel comics, Clea first met Doctor Strange when he travelled to the Dark Dimension to battle Dormammu. Clea guided the Sorcerer Supreme through his journey and eventually returned with him to Earth, where she lived with Strange in his Sanctum Sanctorum. She became his pupil and well-versed in mystical arts.
According to Cinema Blend, Clea is the likely choice of character Rachel McAdams could play in “Doctor Strange.” She’s believed to be the most well-known female character among the Sorcerer Supreme’s supporting casts.
However, whether Rachel McAdams will play as Doctor Strange’s love interest remains unclear. Production details on the comic book adaptation have so far been scarce. Filming will still officially begin in November in London.
