‘Duke Nukem’ Devs Show Off New Game 'Bombshell' In Explosive Gameplay Trailer
“Bombshell” is a top-down action-RPG from from Interceptor Studios and 3D Realms. As gamers might expect from a game that happens to be made by the folks who created “Duke Nukem,” the trailer high on action, sass and chock-full of cheesy dialogue.
The gameplay trailer, posted on the official 3D Realms YouTube Channel shows the titular Shelly "Bombshell" Harrison fighting her way across various alien environments on her quest to rescue the President from an alien threat. The graphics, powered by Epic’s Unreal Engine 3 are bright and vibrant, showcasing decent production values as the tongue-in-cheek action unfolds.
On the official “Bombshell” website, The developer states that it views the game as the start of a brand new franchise. 3D Realms and Interceptor hope to breath life into the ARPG genre by by tackling on action from a different perspective.
“It's a genre that allows us to blend intense storytelling action with player freedom and expression. We believe we can add something new to the genre based on our experiences as a studio,” reads a quote on the game's website.
In its coverage of the story, PC Gamer notes that “Bombshell” began life as an unauthorised new entry in the “Duke Nukem” series called “Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction.” IP owner Gearbox Software sued both 3D Realms and Interceptor to prevent its release. The game was then reworked and first shown off in the middle of last year, as reported by Kotaku.
“Bombshell” appears to have undergone a number of changes in the past year, not the least of which is a complete redesign of its main character. The game features twin-stick shooter mechanics, with an emphasis on mobility and character progression.“Bombshell” will be released on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4, sometime in 2015.
