Ed Sheeran Talks About 'Don't' And Why It Must Be Written
Ed Sheeran confirmed that the song, “Don’t,” was about his ex, Ellie Goulding and her alleged cheating. However, the British singer said that the song was an angry song that needed to be written.
While newspapers across England reported that “Don’t” was really Sheeran’s way of broadcasting to the world that Goulding cheated on him with Niall Horan, the "Thinking Out Loud" singer told Entertainment Weekly that he never really confirmed anything before. He also said he did not let that tidbit slip like the newspapers are claiming. Sheeran said that one of the newspapers in England just printed the story even without confirmation from his camp. He said he got in touch with the newspaper and the story was removed. However, the damage has already been done because other newspapers picked up the story and continued to write about it.
Even though he is still not confirming anything, he did say the song is real and that it was really an angry song that must be written and expressed. Sheeran said, “I had to be as honest as possible in that song because otherwise what's the f---ing point?” He added, "The whole reason people connected to it was because everyone's been that angry at one point, everyone's hated their partner or spouse like, "Don't f--- with this." Sheeran said it was just one of the things that needed to be done. Even if it was not a song that was included on his chart-topping album, he would have still written it.
Right now, the red-headed singer is just focused on his career. Hello Magazine reports that he just won the "Songwriter of the Year" award at Ivor Novello Awards on Thursday. He took to his Instagram to announce how proud he is of the achievement. This does not mean he would stop anytime soon though. He also told Entertainment Weekly that his career goal is to be as famous as Taylor Swift.
