'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie Casting: Alex Pettyfer as Christian Grey [PHOTOS]
Fans of the erotica novels, "Fifty Shades of Grey" are in luck because not one but two guys have been added to the list of potential stars to play Christian Grey. Earlier news suggests that Zac Efron star in the BDSM-themed movie and now news has it that Alex Pettyfer just might have a shot at the movie. How true are the talks?
Focus Features and Universal Studios are officially in charge to produce the film adaptation of E.L. James best-selling adult novels, "Fifty Shades of Grey." So far, the studio has only found a scriptwriter to work on the films' script. Currently, Kelly Marcel is working on a lot of revisions for a script to be used given the film is said to be released by summer of 2014.
As for a director, news has it that Gus Van Sant, the man known for "My Own Private Idaho" and "Milk" is looking to direct the racy film next. The Wrap had originally reported that the 60-year old director had gone ahead to shoot a scene from the novel. Now, this is where things practically heat up. Gus Van Sant had hired the aid of "Magic Mike" star, Alex Pettyfer in the scene to play Christian Grey.
"Insiders stressed that Pettyfer was cast as Grey just for the tape, not the movie, though Universal just got into bed with the 23 year-old actor on its sexy remake of "Endless Love," which he is currently shooting in Atlanta. TheWrap was unable to confirm the identity of the actress cast at Steele, the impressionable young woman who falls for kinky billionaire Grey," states the report by The Wrap.
"Van Sant's candidacy confirms the producers' intentions to hire a high-class filmmaker to deliver a tasteful adaption of the steamy novel. It's possible the success of Steven Soderbergh's male stripper movie "Magic Mike" and its appeal to female audiences is why Van Sant chose to use Pettyfer in his test tape," added the report.
Certainly, Van Sant chose an impressionable candidate for Christian Grey in Alex Pettyfer. However, how would "Fifty" fans react to this news? As for the scene, Focus Features and Universal Studios have declined to comment on the said test reel. For now, all that is news is more speculations and rumours of an official cast and a director.
