'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie Casting: British Men Perfect to Play Christian Grey [PHOTOS]

Surprisingly, a lot of names mentioned as potential stars to play Christian Grey are British in nationality. Obviously, American women love British men given their sex appeal and impeccable acting. In celebration of this favour, here are British actors eyed for the role of Christian Grey for "Fifty Shades of Grey."

Universal Studios and Focus Features have officially gained the rights to produce the film adaptation of E.L. James best-selling erotica novel, "Fifty Shades of Grey." The film is set to debut by summer of 2014 yet casting still has not begun. With a director still not seated and a script unfinished by scriptwriter Kelly Marcel, casting is certainly far off schedule.

Of course, leave it to fans of the BDSM-themed novels to come up with countless lists naming potential Hollywood stars to play the lead roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. Surprisingly, these lists obviously have a number of British men mentioned. It's safe to say that women prefer British actors over American actors for the role of Grey.

In fact, the constant favourite for the role of Christian Grey falls in the favour of British actor, Henry Cavill. Cavill is soon to promote his breakout film as "Man of Steel" and fans are hoping Cavill might consider the S&M role in "Fifty Shades of Grey."

Apart from Cavill, the latest addition to the mix is Alex Pettyfer who had been rumoured to have shot a sex scene with Director Gus Van Sant for the film. Thanks to this, fans have greatly considered Pettyfer for the role of Grey.

Another British wanted for the role of Grey is "Twilight" actor, Robert Pattinson. Given Pattinson was the original inspiration for the character of Grey, it would be appropriate to have Robert play the part. The 26-year old actor had even gone on to joke about starring in the film back in 2012.

"I am playing that part," stated Pattinson.
