E.L. James highly-acclaimed erotica novel, "Fifty Shades of Grey" continues to be hyped about given its anticipated film adaptation. Casting for the movie is one of the most awaited reveals as well. Actor Ryan Gosling has been greatly attached to the film adaptation yet with the latest announcement by Gosling, fans aren't likely to find "The Notebook" star in the "Fifty Shades" movie.

The 32-year old star has been a frontrunner for the role of Christian grey since the movie buzz began in 2012. In an interview with Neil Leonard, E.L. James' husband, Leonard even went on to reveal that Gosling was a favourite for Christian. James of course denied the comments made by her husband.

"No, that's completely misreported. What happened is that his local paper... reported on my husband being the inspiration for Christian Grey. Underneath it they put a picture of Ryan Gosling, as well. So that's how it came about," explained James.

That still hasn't hindered fans from imagining Ryan Gosling as a potential star to play Christian Grey. In fact, Gosling has continuously made it to the top favourites for the role. Yet, fans of the "Drive" star might have to bid him adieu for the role given Gosling had announced he would be taking a break from the acting business.

"I've been doing too much. I've lost perspective on what I'm doing," stated Gosling, adding, "I think it's good for me to take a break and reassess why I'm doing it and how I'm doing it. And I think this is probably a good way to learn about that. I need a break from myself as I imagine the audience does."

This means Gosling is unlikely to be cast in the film which leaves fan favourites, Matt Bomer, Henry Cavill and Ian Somerhalder a better chance to nab the role of Grey. Of course, Gosling not being in the film would also mean "Harry Potter's" Emma Watson won't be in the film as well.

Back in 2012, Watson had expressed interest in the role of Anastasia Steele given Ryan Gosling would play opposite her as Christian Grey.
