‘Final Fantasy Portal’ app gives fans free copy of original ‘Final Fantasy'
Getting released alongside the iOS version of “Final Fantasy VII” is the brand new “Final Fantasy Portal” app. Considered a companion app to all things “Final Fantasy,” the application has its own unique games and features, including the popular “Triple Triad” mini-game from “Final Fantasy VIII.” In addition to that, mobile users who download the app soon can download the mobile version of the first “Final Fantasy” game for free.
The “Triple Triad” card game is one that “Final Fantasy” fans have been demanding for quite some time now and is apparently worth the download alone, according to Touch Arcade. Unlike the first “Final Fantasy” game, it appears that the “Triple Triad” mini-game will be a permanent fixture to the “Final Fantasy Portal” app, so fans interested should download the app immediately.
As for the free version of “Final Fantasy,” fans have until Aug. 31 to download it. The game is practically identical to the mobile version already available in the iTunes App Store and Google Play, so this could be considered a bargain for those who don’t own it yet.
Interestingly enough, the “Final Fantasy Portal” app has a points system that can be used to purchase wallpapers for the mobile device or cards for the “Triple Triad” game. According to Android Authority, all fans have to do is log in with their Square Enix account, look through the app’s news and watch videos to earn points.
Square Enix currently has a strong mobile presence, with multiple “Final Fantasy” games in either the iTunes App Store or Google Play. It was recently revealed that the company’s mobile games have been making a lot of revenue, which led to Square Enix focusing on the mobile game community.
It will be interesting to see if “Final Fantasy Portal” will have more free games coming, though having the first “Final Fantasy” game is a very nice incentive for mobile users. The app itself is a free download, so “Final Fantasy” fans who want to be continuously updated with future games in the series or who simply want to play some “Triple Triad” can do so without paying for anything.
