Google Nexus 7 Tablet now Available for Pre-order in Australia: Where to Buy
Australia is one of the first four countries where the new Nexus 7 Tablet will be available for pre-order.
Google introduced its new Nexus 7 Tablet on Day 1 of I/O Google Developers Conference along with the upgraded Android software, Jelly Bean. The tablet is now available for pre-order in United States, Canada, UK and Australia.
The Nexus 7 is pretty much affordable. The 8GB model is $249, while the 16GB model is $299 and is exclusively available on Google Play Store. Moreover, there is an unspecified shipping charge.
The device is set to land Australian shores on mid-July. Buy Nexus 7 tablet and get $25 of Google Play credit as well as a free copy of movie Transformers: Dark Of The Moon.
The Nexus 7 sports a quad core processor, an HD display, an eight-hour battery life, a front facing camera and weighs 340 grams. The device is made by prime hardware manufacturer Asus. However, Google is quite hands on in building the device to integrate it with the new Android Jelly Bean.
This is the first time that a Nexus device has been available to be sold directly to Australian consumers. There is no word yet if retailers will be able to sold the device.
The Australian price is $50 more than US customers will pay, despite the Australian dollar being at or near parity with the US dollar.
Google also showed off the Nexus Q, an orb-shaped media player which goes on sale today in the US only for US$300. Nexus Q will be available out to other countries at a later, unspecified date. The device holds similarity to that of the Apple TV. However, one of the main differences is that it enables sharing between friends who are also Android users.
Nexus 7 is deemed to be an iPad killer. However, it also takes aim to Amazon's Kindle Fire, which was launched late last year. Kindle Fire is also 7-inch tablet and was sold with the same price range. The Nexus 7 Tablet is also expected to battle head on with Microsoft Surface and Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.
In Australia, iPad remained as the dominant tablet holding 62 percent of the tablet market. Android accounts to 36 percent of the market. However, it is expected to increase with the release of the new mobile software Android Jelly Bean. Android devices also contribute in increasing the popularity of Google's software.
