GTA Online: What you need to get started

Given the popularity of GTA 5 and the fact that online modes usually run into the roadblock of failing servers, the developers have given a few guidelines so you can easily progress through the online mode--and a forewarning of possible server delays.

First, you will need to download the Title Update that has already been rolled out so that access to GTA Online will be unlocked from your game menu.

If you have not yet gone through the single-player story mode, you may find that GTA Online is a few months before the story in GTA 5.

For those who want to jumpstart their character's capability at the beginning of the game, Rockstar Games also warns gamers of this at the get go. "No one can begin GTA Online and simply spend a lot of money out of the game to get a leg up. You will have to earn your stripes and play to unlock, access to the aspirational clothes, guns, and other items," said the Rockstar Games.

The Character Creation System, which has been discussed at length even before GTA 5 was released, can also be seen in action once you start with GTA Online. Keep in mind that your character does not end with your creation--it follows through depending on the activities and habits that you instill in them.

Hopefully, Rockstar Games can address the server problems that a lot of gamers are currently experiencing.

Rep system on GTA Online

Aside from all of the rules and guidelines, VG 24/7 also spotted an interesting feature that is reminiscent of the Xbox's Griefer system.

According to the report, on the GTA Online menu, there is a disclaimer that states that those who behave inappropriately, such as being abusive to other gamers, will receive a bad rep as a "Bad Sports" individual.

Once you get this kind of rep, you will be matched to play with others who have the Bad Sports rep. This is perhaps the system to make sure that, even though violence and crime reign supreme in GTA 5, you know your place as a decent player online. Which is kind of a contradiction as you would be doing all sorts of evil in the game.

Coincidentally, there is also a good rep reward for those who are good players. Try out the new feature for yourself, once GTA Online server issues are finally resolved, but it seems like Rockstar Games is trying hard to make it work and avoid a DRM fiasco similar to Diablo 3 and SimCity.
